Alnwick's Building Trade Turns Out for Launch of New Jewson Branch

A purpose-built Jewson has opened at Lionheart Enterprise Park, with a launch day of food trucks, guest appearances and prize draws, and four new jobs for the town.

Builders, tradespeople and families gathered at Lionheart Enterprise Park in mid-August for the launch of a new, purpose-built Jewson branch, a welcome development for the many trades that keep Alnwick's homes and building sites going.

The new branch, on Lionheart Enterprise Park South, replaces the builders' merchant's former site off Wagonway Road. It has created four new jobs and now stocks around 7,000 products and materials for local builders and tradespeople.

Everything under one roof

The bigger, purpose-built site is designed to save trades time on the job. It offers a drive-in loading bay, an extended range of timber products stored undercover, a dedicated bathroom selection centre with plumbing specialists on hand, and paint-mixing facilities, so that most of what a project needs can be picked up in one trip. There is even a brew station serving free tea and coffee through the day.

For a market town where reliable local supply matters, a well-stocked merchant on the town's main enterprise park is a practical boost. Lionheart is already home to a cluster of trade and motor businesses, including Blackshaws, Lionheart Garage and R Porteous Roofing & Solar PV.

A launch day to remember

The grand opening leaned into the occasion. Former footballer Jimmy Bullard and darts champion James Wade hosted sporting challenges and a live question-and-answer session, while a DJ, a group of Highland cows, free street food, an ice cream van and the famous Dulux dog kept guests entertained.

Best for:

Customers who placed orders on the day were entered into prize draws, with winners taking home everything from World Darts Championship tickets at Alexandra Palace to hospitality at Anfield, a golf day at The Belfry, and £1,000 in holiday vouchers.

A vote of confidence in local trades

Branch manager Malcolm Wootton said the day was "exactly what we hoped it would be", bringing local builders and tradespeople together to strengthen relationships with existing customers and meet new ones.

The move into a larger, purpose-built home suggests confidence in the level of building work across Alnwick and north Northumberland, and it gives local trades a fuller range of stock closer to hand. You can read the full report in the Northumberland Gazette.
