A cracking weekend ahead in Alnwick with live music at the Playhouse and fairy magic at Lilidorei, plus some big events across the wider North East including the Northumberland Plate and a seaside food festival at Whitley Bay.
Jon Boden: The Floodplain Trilogy
Friday 27 June at Alnwick Playhouse. The former Bellowhead frontman performs his ambitious Floodplain Trilogy -- a song cycle exploring climate, landscape, and community. An intimate evening of folk music from one of the finest performers of his generation, right in the heart of Alnwick. Doors at 7:30pm.
International Fairy Day at Lilidorei
Friday 27 June at The Alnwick Garden. Lilidorei celebrates International Fairy Day with a full day of enchantment from 10am to 5pm. Expect fairy trails, storytelling, crafts, and magical surprises throughout the world's largest play structure. A wonderful day out for younger children in particular.
Northumberland Plate Festival
Saturday 27 June at Newcastle Racecourse. The Pitmen's Derby is the highlight of the flat racing calendar in the North East. A full day of racing at Gosforth Park, with the big race itself drawing huge crowds. About an hour south of Alnwick, but one of the great sporting traditions of the summer.
Something in the Water (Joe McElderry)
Saturday 28 June at Theatre Royal, Newcastle. South Shields' own Joe McElderry stars in this new musical at the Theatre Royal, with performances at 2:30pm and 7:30pm. A fine excuse for a trip to Newcastle if you fancy a matinee or evening show.
Feast by the Sea
Saturday and Sunday 28-29 June at Spanish City, Whitley Bay. A weekend food festival at the iconic Spanish City dome on the Whitley Bay seafront. Street food, local producers, cookery demonstrations, and live music in one of the best seaside settings in the North East.
Buzz Dance: At The Movies
Friday 27 June at Northern Stage, Newcastle. A high-energy dance show inspired by the silver screen, performed at Northern Stage from 7:30pm. A great evening out if you enjoy contemporary dance with a cinematic twist.
Tynemouth Station Market
Saturday 27 June at Tynemouth Station. The region's favourite weekend market under the Victorian canopy, with handmade crafts, vintage finds, street food, and live music. Open from 9am to 4pm.
