Best Wedding Venues in Alnwick

From the ramparts of Alnwick Castle to coastal country houses and restored Northumberland barns — some of the finest wedding venues in the North East.

Alnwick.live·

Alnwick and the surrounding north-Northumberland countryside punch well above their weight as a wedding destination. Within the town you can marry in one of England's grandest castles or in a contemporary pavilion overlooking a world-famous garden, while a short drive brings you to Georgian halls, coastal retreats and characterful barns on private estates. The venues below are all licensed or established for weddings — and once yours is booked, our Weddings in Alnwick hub brings together local suppliers, from bridalwear and cakes to photographers and musicians.

Landmark venues in Alnwick

Alnwick Castle is the second-largest inhabited castle in England and home to the Percy family for over 700 years. It offers civil ceremonies in the medieval Guest Hall, seating up to around 200 for a ceremony and 160 for the wedding breakfast, with larger celebrations available at the ruined Hulne Abbey in Hulne Park. Its State Rooms, ramparts and Harry Potter fame make it one of the most dramatic wedding settings in the country.

The Alnwick Garden, next to the castle, offers a striking modern alternative: the contemporary Pavilion is licensed for marriages of up to 200 guests overlooking the Grand Cascade, with much larger receptions possible in the Pavilion Atrium and the option of an outdoor Arbour ceremony.

Country-house estates near Alnwick

Ellingham Hall is a privately owned country house in eight acres of Northumbrian grounds about ten miles north of Alnwick, offering relaxed exclusive-use weddings for up to 180 guests with on-site cottages so the whole party can stay. Charlton Hall, on a private 150-acre estate near Chathill, is a Grade II listed luxury exclusive-use venue suited to both indoor and outdoor ceremonies. Nearby, Doxford Hall Hotel & Spa is a Georgian country-house hotel with formal gardens, a spa and on-site accommodation, licensed for civil ceremonies.

Barn and coastal venues

Doxford Barns is an award-winning rural barn venue on a private estate, where the restored 18th-century Threshing Hall seats up to 160 guests beneath a solid oak frame, with on-site accommodation for weekend-long celebrations. On the coast, Newton Hall at Newton-by-the-Sea is celebrated for its outdoor and beach ceremonies, with options including Wedding Hill, the retractable-roofed Terrace and the Enchanted Chapel right on the Northumberland coast.
