Northumberland Monopoly Unveiled at Alnwick Castle — Have Your Say
A Northumberland edition of Monopoly has been announced at Alnwick Castle, and residents are invited to nominate the local places and landmarks that should feature. Nominations close on 26 July.
Northumberland is getting its own Monopoly board, and the county's most famous fortress played host to the reveal. Winning Moves, the company behind the official regional editions of the game, chose Alnwick Castle as the setting to announce Monopoly: Northumberland Edition — and now residents across the county are being asked to help decide what goes on the board.
Public nominations are open
Anyone with a favourite Northumberland place, landmark, business or attraction can put it forward. Nominations are being taken by email, and the window is short: suggestions must be in by the end of Sunday 26 July. The makers say they want the board to reflect the county as locals actually know it, from headline sights to the smaller places that matter to communities.
The custom cards are getting the local treatment too. The traditional Chance and Community Chest squares will be reworked with Northumberland in mind — one trailed example sends a player back three spaces for wild camping in Northumberland National Park.
Alnwick's case is a strong one
With the launch staged at the castle, Alnwick starts the campaign in a good position. The town can point to the castle itself, the world-famous Alnwick Garden, Barter Books in the old railway station, and the medieval streets and towers that draw visitors year-round. Whether any of those lands one of the coveted dark-blue squares now depends in part on how many people put them forward.
Best for: Nominations for Monopoly: Northumberland Edition close at 11.59pm on Sunday 26 July. The finished board is expected to go on sale in 2027.
Northumberland was picked ahead of several other counties for its own edition, with the makers citing a strong sense of community, civic pride and natural beauty. You can read more about the launch in the Northumberland Gazette.
