Alnwick has another Northumbria in Bloom winner. The garden at Robert Adam Court, the residential development on Bondgate Without, has been named Best in Class in the residential communities category of this year's regional awards. It is proof that a shared garden looked after by its neighbours can stand alongside the town's bigger floral displays.

Northumbria in Bloom is now in its 62nd year. The competition encourages communities across the region to improve where they live through community gardening and sound environmental practice, and it feeds into the UK-wide Britain in Bloom.

A garden built on teamwork

The judges noted that the Robert Adam Court garden combines work by a maintenance contractor with a great deal of effort from residents. They praised it for creating a welcoming place that encourages people to socialise.

Best for:

Judges described the garden as "a thriving, peaceful green sanctuary that significantly enhances daily life for the entire community."

This is not the first time the court has been recognised. It was also named best residential community at the 2024 awards, when Alnwick took the overall Best Town title.

Trophy presented in Alnwick

According to Alnwick Town Council, representatives of Alnwick in Bloom and the town council presented residents with a gold certificate and a glass trophy to mark the win.

A good year for Alnwick's gardeners

Robert Adam Court was not the only Alnwick winner. Swansfield Park Primary School was joint winner of the schools section with Durham Gilesgate Primary School in Belmont. The judges singled out its forest school, allotments, class planters and pond, and the way each class is named after one of the mature trees on site.

Elsewhere in Northumberland, Berwick won the best town centre retail area. The overall prize, the Percy Boydell Award, went to Washington Village.
