About Alnwick Playhouse Youth Theatre & Dance

Alnwick Playhouse is the town's arts centre, theatre and cinema on Bondgate Without, and its youth programmes give children and young people across Northumberland the chance to perform and create in a professional venue. The Playhouse Youth Theatre is aimed at those aged 7 to 16 and is an open-access group, meaning there are no auditions and no previous experience is required, only enthusiasm, commitment, creativity and a willingness to have a go. Members are divided into groups following their key stage and school year, giving age-appropriate work throughout.

Young people meet for weekly workshops in the Playhouse's rehearsal and studio spaces and have unique access to the venue, working towards a performance piece or play each year on the main stage or in the studio. The centre also runs Youth Dance classes led by experienced instructors, where children develop technique and creativity while learning how a dance performance is put together and performing on the Playhouse main stage. Term fees apply, and bursary places offering reductions of 50 to 75 per cent are available depending on household income.
