About Oat and Olive

Oat and Olive is a 50-cover cafe and bistro on Market Street in Alnwick, occupying the carefully restored former Turnbull's butcher's shop. The building is Grade II listed, and heritage specialists worked on its conversion to preserve and restore its historic features. Opened in summer 2026, the venue is owned by Alex Swinney, who is also connected with the Pavilion Tipi and The Pressed Club in Morpeth. The project created a number of local jobs and forms part of a wider scheme that includes five holiday-let apartments, known as Market Street Apartments, on the floors above the cafe.

The cafe serves a menu built around breakfast and brunch, with an emphasis on local produce and a healthy, wholesome approach to its dishes. It offers a relaxed setting in the heart of Alnwick, close to the town's shops and attractions, and the owners have indicated plans to extend opening hours into the evening in future. With its combination of a restored historic building, a produce-led kitchen and holiday accommodation upstairs, Oat and Olive brings a new all-day dining option to Market Street.
