Yan's at 10 Bondgate Within is regularly cited as the best Chinese restaurant in Northumberland, and with over 500 TripAdvisor reviews and a 4.5-star rating, the evidence supports the claim. It is a proper sit-down Cantonese restaurant that also does takeaway, and the menu covers a wide range: dim sum, crispy duck, Szechuan beef, sweet and sour chicken, and a selection of dishes you would not always find outside a city. Portions are generous and the cooking is authentic.

What sets Yan's apart is a fully gluten-free menu, which is unusual for a Chinese restaurant. If you have dietary requirements, this is a rare place where you can eat with confidence. Open six days a week for both dine-in and collection.

Leo at 17 Clayport Street brings stylish Thai-led pan-Asian cooking to the centre of Alnwick. Chef Num was born in the Buri Ram region of Thailand and has spent 20 years working in award-winning restaurants across the globe. The result is a menu that feels authentically Thai rather than generically Asian: expect curries, stir-fries, and noodle dishes made with proper technique and good ingredients.

The restaurant itself is smart and modern, a step above what you might expect in a small market town. Dine-in and takeaway are both available. Opening hours are evenings only on most days (closed Tuesdays), with Saturday lunch also available. It is worth booking ahead, particularly at weekends.

A Note on Thai Vibe

Thai Vibe on Narrowgate was previously Alnwick's other Thai option and was well-loved by locals. At the time of writing it appears to be closed indefinitely. If it reopens, it will be a welcome addition back to the town's dining scene.
