Alnwick Community Allotment

A community gardening project run with Northumberland Recovery College volunteers where people learn growing skills together.

About Alnwick Community Allotment

Alnwick Community Allotment is a community gardening project that combines hands-on horticulture with mental health and wellbeing support. It is run by Northumberland Recovery College, a service commissioned by the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board, and volunteers lead participants in developing and maintaining a shared green space in the town. Sessions gather near Victoria Terrace in central Alnwick and take a recovery-focused approach, using gardening as a way to support health and wellbeing while building a wider sense of community.

Weekly sessions give participants the chance to learn practical gardening skills and take part in a collective growing project in a supportive, welcoming setting. The allotment is open to anyone aged 18 and over who lives or works in Northumberland; new participants complete a referral form to take part, and places may be subject to a waiting list when the group is full. As a Recovery College activity, it is offered free to those who join, with an emphasis on shared learning, connection and time spent outdoors.
