About Alnwick District Food Bank

Alnwick District Food Bank is an independent, self-funded and volunteer-led charity providing emergency food support to disadvantaged individuals and families across the Alnwick district, from Coquetdale in the west to the coast in the east. It is based at the Lindisfarne Centre on Lindisfarne Road, a building that also houses Citizens Advice, the Town Council and other local services alongside a café. Run entirely by volunteers, it is a registered charity operating locally rather than as part of a national network.

Rather than handing out pre-packed parcels, the food bank has fitted out its rooms like a small corner shop, so that people can choose the items they need for themselves, accompanied by a volunteer. This approach is intended to preserve dignity and give visitors greater choice over what they take home. Support is typically provided through weekly collection during opening hours, and the charity relies on donations of food and funds from the local community to sustain its work meeting essential food needs across the district.
