The Dirty Bottles
Historic pub on Narrowgate with famously dusty bottles in the window — left untouched since the 1800s. Good ales, pub food, and rooms available.
About The Dirty Bottles
The Dirty Bottles is one of Alnwick's most iconic pubs, instantly recognisable by the dust-covered bottles that have sat undisturbed in its front window since the 1800s. Legend has it that a former landlord placed a curse on them, and no one has dared move them since. Beyond the folklore, it is a proper pub with a good selection of real ales, hearty pub food, and a warm, characterful atmosphere. The pub also offers hotel accommodation, making it a popular base for visitors to Alnwick. Managed by Greene King, it strikes a nice balance between historic charm and modern comfort.
